At the Away Day, Tracey Clarke gave an informative talk about creating the vision. Here is a summary:
Language is extremely important, we need to get people to buying into an idea, sell them a vision. Who are the stakeholders? Language must be inspiring and persuasive. You can have different versions for different stakeholders, but the underpinning values should remain the same. Write a persuasive business case – there will be a degree of scrutiny. What impact will our DL strategy make, how will it make things better?
What levers do we have to make this happen? A vision must be a short statement, less than 1 side of A4. Strategic engagement, what are we going to deliver that underpins our vision? What is the output of the vision. Do not overstretch ourselves, what can realistically be done in year 1? What are the practical benefits to the academics/the students? What are the key messages for students? Need to lead with the outputs.
We are having a series of follow up meetings to discuss our strategy going forward, ending with creating the vision statement.
