Hi! My name’s Matt and I’m the Digital Learning Resource Co-creator (Graduate Intern) here at Library Learning Services in the University of Sheffield.
Having graduated in 2017 from a Music and Hispanic Studies degree, I jumped at the opportunity to work on developing Information and Digital Literacy Tutorials here in the library.
Despite being quite experienced with digital media production, I started the role with no background whatsoever in librarianship (apart from my long hours studying here in the IC…). I thought I’d struggle with my lack of experience, but it turns out that the collaboration between non-librarians with technical skills (like myself) and librarians with specialist knowledge can produce some really good results.
To mark the end of the 6 month point of the internship back in July, the other interns and I were tasked with producing a poster to showcase some of the things we have worked on. You can read more about mine below…

Task: animate the IDL logo to be used at the start and end of all of our video resources
Action: conceptualised, storyboarded and animated the logo using Adobe After Effects.
The Information and Digital Literacy animated logo
Task: Create 3 videos for the bank of pre-entry resources aimed at college-level students
Action: Collaborated with colleagues to plan, produce and deliver videos covering the basics of discovering and understanding information.

I’ve learnt a huge amount from my time with LLSU and look forward to becoming a permanent member of the team from the end of 2018!
